Director: Réka Pigniczky

Réka Pigniczky is a television journalist and documentary filmmaker who has worked for the Associated Press Television for over 10 years, mostly in New York City and Budapest. Next to her work in journalism, she co-founded Pige Ltd (now 56films) in 1996, a company that has produced two documentaries and currently has two under development.  Réka, who was born and raised in the United States to Hungarian refugee parents, has an M.A. in journalism and international relations from Columbia University in New York, an M.A. in political science from the Central European University in Budapest, and a B.A. in Political Science and Art History from the University of California in San Diego. JOURNEY HOME was her first documentary feature film, which she directed, wrote and co-produced. Released in Hungary in the fall of 2006, it has received much acclaim and a number of awards (please see under Journey Home).

 

Script - Story Editor: Pierre-Olivier Francois

Pierre-Olivier François, a French journalist and documentary filmmaker, was born in 1971. He studied political science in Paris and Berlin (MA), and art history in Lyon (MA), and went to journalism school in Bordeaux. Since then, he has worked for numerous newspapers in France, Germany and Britain, and has been press attaché at the United Nations in New York. Since 1995 he has been a reporter for the evening news of the French-German public television ARTE and their cultural magazines.

Since 1999, he has also done a number of documentaries, including The big step back, about language teaching (ARTE, 26 min, French-German journalism prize 2001), North Korea, the border and the war (ARTE, YLE, TSR, 52 min, 2003), The gift of languages, on bilingualism (ARTE, WDR, TV Catalunya, 52 min, 2004), Pizza Nostra (France 5, Italian & Japanese TV, 52 minutes, 2005), Biofuel - the Brazilian revolution (ARTE, Planete, Globo TV, 52 min, 2006), 2 nations, one history, about the writing of a non-national history (ARTE, France 3, NDR, 52minutes, 2007). He is currently working on a 90 minutes documentary film about the development of Siberia (ARTE, NDR & Ugra TV).

PO François also was the researcher for Reporter lost (ARTE & SDR, 90 minutes, dir: J.Feindt, 2004), which won the Grimme prize of best German documentary of the year, and story-editor for Journey Home, by Réka Pigniczky (88 min, 2006), which won numerous awards in Central and Eastern Europe.

Luca Poncellini is an architect and designer, from Torino, Italy. He graduated from the Faculty of Architecture, Politecnico di Torino, in 2002; achieved a Doctorate degree in History of Architecture and Town Planning at the Politecnico di Torino and Politecnico di Milano in 2006. He wrote his dissertation – to be published later in 2008 -- on the architecture of L.E.Hudec, and is one of the best-known experts on his work. He is currently a professor at NABA Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti, Milano and at the Politecnicodi Milano, Piacenza. He is a member of Cliostraat since 1998 (www.cliostraat.com), a member of Brigata Tognazzi (2000-2002), and the founder of Zeronitriti in 2001 (www.zeronitriti.com). Between 1998 and 2007, he worked in the field of architectural design and research in Italy, Germany, Japan, China, Thailand, Croatia, Netherlands, Senagal, and Algeria. He is the author of articles for several publications in the field ofarchitecture, author and curator of the italian traslation of: Bernard Tschumi, Matthew Berman, "Index Architecture", Milano, Postmedia Books, 2004.

 

Camera: Gergő Kiss

Gergő Kiss is a cameraman,  photographer and film director. He filmed and directed his own documentary short in 2004 titled Összhang (Harmony). He has worked on several international film projects in Hungary as a first and second assistant director and also as a location scout and casting director. He has extensive experience as a cameraman for TV2 and MTV in Hungary. His wrote and directed his first film, Előrejelzés (Forecast) in 1996. He received a degree in visual design from the Hungarian University of Applied Arts. He was the director of photography on Réka Pigniczky’s first documentary: Journey Home: a story from the Hungarian Revolution of 1956.

Editor: László Hargittai, H.S.E.

László Hargittai is well renown as a documentary and feature film editor in Hungary. His major works include a number of documentary films by the award-winning director Tamás Almási, including Our Cells, From Home to Home, and just recently (2008) Puskas: the most famous Hungarian. He also edited Almási’s newest feature film Mario, the Magician. He edited András Salamon’s film Huttyán as well as Csaba Szekeres’s film Ruins and Flowers. Hargittai has also edited a number of Hungarian feature films, including Now you see me now you don‘t by AttilaSzász, which won a number of international awards,  and Hungarian Fragment by András Solyom. He also directed Journey Home: a story from the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. Hargittai is the technical director and co-owner of 4-Cut Digital Studio in Budapest (www.4cut.hu).

Visual Researcher:  Virág Csejdy, director of Hudec Heritage Project

Virág Csejdy is the director of the HHP in which  she is responsible for concept development  and web design. She is also conducting research on all visual archive materials about L.E. Hudec that have recently surfaced (2008). She is a free-lance web designer and project leader. Her former works include:  from 2000 to 2004 she designed and developed websites as a project leader  at the premiere Hungarian internet film portal Film.hu. This work included sites for filmunio.hu, mmka.hu, pim.hu, filmtortenet.hu. She also designs film and art websites and works as project manager for other Hungarian visual artists. She completed her studies in visual art design at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest and also completed an MA degree in multi-media at the Institute of Art and Media in Utrecht (HKU). She is L.E. Hudec’s grand niece.
